ΔΕΛΤΙΟ ΤΥΠΟΥ: Η ΠΟΙΗΤΙΚΗ ΣΥΛΛΟΓΗ “AFLOAT” ΤΗΣ ΧΡΙΣΤΙΝΑΣ ΜΕΤΑΞΑ ΣΥΓΚΙΝΕΙ ΣΕ ΕΥΡΩΠΗ ΚΑΙ ΑΜΕΡΙΚΗ

Η Κύπρια ποιήτρια και βραβευμένη απόφοιτος του Brown University, Χριστίνα Μεταξά, ολοκλήρωσε τον πρώτο κύκλο της διεθνούς της περιοδείας με την έβδομη και τελευταία παρουσίαση της ποιητικής της συλλογής “AFLOAT”, στις 28 Μαΐου 2025, στο Ελληνοαμερικανικό Πολιτιστικό Κέντρο της Νέας Υόρκης.

Η συλλογή κυκλοφόρησε τον Φεβρουάριο του 2025 από τις εκδόσεις Armida και αποτελεί ένα λυρικό ταξίδι από τη μοναξιά προς το φως – γραμμένο στα αγγλικά, με στοιχεία ελληνικών και γαλλικών. Τα ποιήματα εξερευνούν θέματα όπως η αντοχή, η θλίψη, η ελπίδα και η μοναξιά.

Κατά τη διάρκεια της παρουσίασης της ποιητικής συλλογής στη Λευκωσία, η πρώην Πρέσβης της Κύπρου στην Κίνα, κα. Μάρθα Μαυρομμάτη, τόνισε το συγκινησιακό βάθος της ποιητικής συλλογής. Υπογράμμισε πως τόσο το εξώφυλλο του βιβλίου – δημιουργία της ίδιας της συγγραφέως – όσο και ποιήματα όπως το «Lonely» και «Underwater», άγγιξαν βαθιά τις ευαισθησίες της, ανακαλώντας το παγκόσμιο βίωμα της μετανάστευσης και την τραγική πορεία των θυμάτων πολέμου που διασχίζουν τις θάλασσες  με βάρκες αναζητώντας ένα καλύτερο μέλλον, αλλά και την μοναξιά που συχνά συνοδεύει την επιβίωση και την απώλεια.»

Στη Νέα Υόρκη, η εφημερίδα Εθνικός Κήρυξ, τίμησε την παρουσίαση με σχετικό άρθρο, αναφέροντας τα λόγια του Προέδρου της ΠΣΕΚΑ, κ. Κρίστοφερ: «Το “AFLOAT” μάς πήρε αναμφίβολα σε ένα ταξίδι από τη μοναξιά στη ζωή και την ελπίδα… Με τα όσα έχει υποφέρει η Κύπρος, όλοι οι Ελληνοκύπριοι έχουμε βιώσει αυτά τα συναισθήματα μέσα στα χρόνια. Απόψε γίναμε μάρτυρες της αρχής ενός πολύ ταλαντούχου νέου ανθρώπου… Η Χριστίνα μάς κάνει όλους περήφανους απόψε.»

Η κάθε παρουσίαση εμπλουτίστηκε μουσικά από τον μαέστρο Άρη Αντωνιάδη, ο οποίος ερμήνευσε πρωτότυπες συνθέσεις εμπνευσμένες από τα ποιήματα, προσφέροντας μια μοναδική εμπειρία λόγου και ήχου.

Όπως είπε χαρακτηριστικά ένας ακροατής στην Αθήνα: «Μακάρι το βιβλίο σας να σώσει ανθρώπους σε όλο τον κόσμο όπως έσωσε εμένα σήμερα.»

Το “AFLOAT” μεταφράζεται ήδη στα Σλοβενικά, Ελληνικά, Πορτογαλικά, Γαλλικά και Ισπανικά και είναι διαθέσιμο στα βιβλιοπωλεία του Brown University (ΗΠΑ), στον Ιανό (Αθήνα), στο Σολώνιο (Λευκωσία), στο Chez-νού (Λεμεσός), καθώς και σε Amazon και Kindle.

Καθώς πέντε βιβλία ετοιμάζονται να αποσταλούν σε παιδικές βιβλιοθήκες στην Τζαμάικα, σε περιοχές με περιορισμένη πρόσβαση στην εκπαίδευση, το “AFLOAT” συνεχίζει το ταξίδι του, αγγίζοντας ψυχές σε όλο τον κόσμο.

Όπως τόνισε και η ίδια η συγγραφέας Χριστίνα Μεταξά: «Η αποστολή του “AFLOAT” είναι να διερωτηθούμε και να θυμηθούμε τη δύναμη και την αντοχή της ανθρώπινης καρδιάς… και να συνειδητοποιήσουμε πως η επιλογή για φως, για ανάσα και για ζωή είναι πάντα μέσα μας.»

Ας στηρίξουμε και ας γιορτάσουμε μια νέα, δυναμική φωνή στη σύγχρονη ποίηση.

CHRISTINA METAXA’S POETRY COLLECTION “AFLOAT” MOVES AUDIENCES ACROSS EUROPE AND THE U.S.

Cypriot poet and acclaimed Brown University alumna Christina Metaxa concluded her international tour with the seventh and final presentation of her poetry collection, “AFLOAT”, on May 28, 2025, at the Hellenic Cultural Center in New York.

Published by Armida Publications in February 2025, “AFLOAT” is a lyrical journey from solitude to light – written in English, with touches of Greek and French. The collection explores universal themes such as resilience, sorrow, hope and loneliness. From its debut at Chez-νού in Cyprus, in March 2025, the tour continued through Greece, Slovenia and the U.S., with presentations in venues including Tomaz Salamun Center for Poetry in Ljubljana, Ivy league Brown University in the US, Gloucester Writers Center in Boston and the Hellenic Cultural Center in New York.

A signature feature of the events was the live musical accompaniment by composer Aris Antoniades, who performed original works inspired by the poems, creating a captivating fusion of word and sound.

During the Nicosia presentation, Ms. Martha Mavrommatis, former Ambassador of Cyprus to China, remarked on the emotional depth of the collection. She emphasized how both the book’s cover – designed by the author – and poems like “Lonely” and “Underwater” resonated deeply with her, evoking the universal experience of migration, the plight of war victims traveling by boat in search of a better future and the isolation that often accompanies both survival and loss.

One audience member in Athens captured the essence of the experience, stating: “May your book save people around the world in the way it saved me today.”

In New York, the renowned newspaper National Herald, honoured the presentation with a relevant article, mentioning the words of Pseka President Mr Christopher: “AFLOAT” has certainly taken us on a journey from loneliness to life and hope… with Cyprus suffering all Greek Cypriots have gone through those emotions over the years. We have witnessed tonight the beginning of a very talented young person… Christina makes us all very proud tonight.”

“AFLOAT” is currently being translated into Slovenian, Greek, Portuguese, French and Spanish. It is available in print at Brown University Bookstore (USA), Ianos Bookshop (Athens), Soloneion Book Centre (Nicosia), Chez-νού Literary Society (Limassol) and online via Amazon and Kindle.

As five books are set to be distributed to Jamaican children’s libraries in educationally underserved communities, “AFLOAT” continues its mission to build emotional bridges and inspire across borders.

As the writer Christina Metaxa mentioned: “The mission of “AFLOAT” is to question and to recall the ways and the resilience of our human heart… reminding ourselves that the choice for light and breath and life is always inside of us.”
